Technical Platform Messaging & Ecosystem Communication
openDBL β Horizon Europe Project
Overview
- Project: openDBL (Horizon Europe)
- Industry: Building Logbook/ AECO
- Scope: Product Communication & Dissemination
- Role: Product Marketing & Communications Specialist
- Focus: Messaging, stakeholder communication, ecosystem engagement
Context
openDBL was a Horizon Europe innovation project focused on developing a digital building logbook platform to standardise and digitise building lifecycle data across the AECO industry.
The platform was developed collaboratively by multiple partners, including research institutions, technology providers, and industry stakeholders.
My role focused on communication and dissemination β ensuring that the platform, its developments, and its value were clearly understood across a diverse ecosystem.
Problem
- High technical complexity: Platform developments were difficult to communicate clearly to non-technical audiences
- Diverse stakeholders: Research, industry, and policy audiences required different messaging
- Low awareness: Digital building logbooks were still an emerging concept
- Multi-partner alignment: Communication needed to remain consistent across multiple organisations
Without clear communication, there was a risk of low engagement and limited ecosystem understanding.
Approach
The focus was on translating technical developments into clear, structured communication, while ensuring alignment across stakeholders.
1. Stakeholder Mapping & Communication Needs

- technical partners
- industry professionals
- ecosystem participants
- Adapted messaging based on audience type
π Insight: Different stakeholders required different levels of detail and framing.
2. Messaging & Content Development
- Translated technical updates into accessible, non-technical narratives
- Focused communication on:
- practical applications
- industry relevance
- long-term impact
π Insight: Clear communication is essential for bridging the gap between innovation and understanding.
3. Dissemination Strategy
- Supported communication across:
- website updates
- webinars and events
- project announcements and reports
- Ensured consistency across multiple European partners
π Insight: In multi-partner environments, consistency is key to maintaining clarity and credibility.
